This Draft Standard for Trial Use contains the format and establishes the data contents of the Motor Carrier Shipment Pick-up Notification Transaction Set (216) for use within the context of an Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) environment. This transaction set can be used to allow shippers or other interested parties to provide a motor carrier with notification that a shipment is available for pick-up. It is not to be used to provide a motor carrier with data relative to a legal bill of lading, rating, pricing, or appointment scheduling.

    The G61 segment is used to provide the motor carrier with the name and phone number of the contact that can answer questions concerning the freight available for pick-up at the location specified in loop 0100.
  4. To provide minimal lading data relative to a pick-up

    The TEM segment provides the motor carrier with the total number of handling units and the approximate weight of the shipment that is available for pick-up at the location specified in loop 0100.
  5. To transmit information in a free-form format for comment or special instruction

    The K2 segment will convey special instructions regarding the pick-up to the carrier. Examples of these special instructions could include items such as: nonstackable pallets, no dock, make pickup at door 3 today, urgent; must be picked up today.
