X12 945 Warehouse Shipping Advice
This Draft Standard for Trial Use contains the format and establishes the data contents of the Warehouse Shipping Advice Transaction Set (945) for use within the context of an Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) environment. The transaction set can be used by the warehouse to advise the depositor that shipment was made. It is used to reconcile order quantities with shipment quantities.

Detail
Assigned Number
To reference a line number in a transaction set
Marks and Numbers
To indicate identifying marks and numbers for shipping containers
Code specifying the application or source of Marks and Numbers (87)
- MAN01/MAN02 and MAN04/MAN05 may be used to identify two different marks and numbers assigned to the same physical container.
- When MAN01 contains code "UC" (U.P.C. Shipping Container Code) and MAN05/MAN06 contain a range of ID numbers, MAN03 is not used. The reason for this is that the U.P.C. Shipping Container code is the same on every carton that is represented in the range in MAN05/MAN06.
- GM
- SSCC-18 and Application Identifier
Marks and numbers used to identify a shipment or parts of a shipment
- When both MAN02 and MAN03 are used, MAN02 is the starting number of a sequential range and MAN03 is the ending number of that range.
This data element is the 20 digit carton code found on the label that was affixed to the carton. This 20 digit code includes your 7 digit MH10 code and a modulus 10 check digit.
The warehouse item detail segment represents the total quantity in units of a single product code within the carton referenced by the preceding MAN segment. There will be one W12 segment for each individual product code within a carton. Taylored Services uses the 21st and 22nd elements of this transaction to echo back size information that does not conform to the ANSI standard. This is an optional field that is currently used by some of Taylored Services’ garment customers.
If the same product is packed in multiple cartons the total quantity of product shipped will not be represented in a single W12 segment but as a sum of multiple W12 segments containing the same product code.
Warehouse Item Detail
To designate those line items that were shipped
Code indicating the status of an order or shipment or the disposition of any difference between the quantity ordered and the quantity shipped for a line item or transaction
- Whenever W1201 contains "IS", W1216, W1217, and W1218 refer to the original item ordered.
- SH
- Shipped (Date)
Numeric value of units shipped in manufacturer's shipping units for a line item or transaction set
Numeric value of variance between ordered and shipped quantities
Product A is on an order requiring 100 units.
Taylored only has 90 units on hand and shorts the order by 10 units. The product is packed in two cartons; there are two W12 segments in the returned 945. Assuming 45 units were packed in each box, the first W12 segment would read:
W12SH1004510...
The second W12 segment would read:
W12SH1004510...
Code specifying the units in which a value is being expressed, or manner in which a measurement has been taken
- EA
- Each
Code (Universal Product Code - U.P.C.) including two high order digits identifying the "system" (U.S. Grocery = 00, 06 or 07; U.S. Drug = 03); using the U.S. Grocery system, the next ten digits are: Manufacturer (5) Case Code (5)
This is the UPC code of the product that was shipped. This is the same value that was transmitted in the W01/03 in the 940 order.
Code identifying the type/source of the descriptive number used in Product/Service ID (234)
This code tells the EDI translator that the value in the next element is your customer’s product code. Often this product code is required to be printed on shipping labels to meet shipping compliance standards. Examples of customer product codes would be Wal-Mart’s WMIT ID, Target’s DPCI number and Kmart’s MOPS number.
- CB
- Buyer's Catalog Number
Identifying number for a product or service
Same as W01/05 from 940

This code qualifies the next element as containing your product code (Taylored Services’ vendor product code).
- VN
- Vendor's (Seller's) Item Number
Identifying number for a product or service
Same as W01/07 from 940
Code identifying the type/source of the descriptive number used in Product/Service ID (234)
This qualifier is used only if this information is transmitted to Taylored Services in the W01/17 element of the 940.
